J-Core is currently SH-2 with some additional instructions only. SH-3 will
be next according to the current roadmap [1]. I'm not sure whether the
patents covering SH-4 have expired yet.

In any case, Debian currently supports SH-4 while SH-3 is currently being
added so that there is actually software available when J-3 comes out.
